Welcome to July!

Like my last post about the second half of 2021, this one is done entirely on the basis of my online banking statements and the recollections of a handful of cash transactions that I did do. So, the numbers probably won’t be 100% accurate, but close enough.

This year I’ve already had a couple of bigger expenses: First, I finally took the plunge and got myself a Coursera Plus membership in January (at a discount, but still) and second, I had to get a new computer and pay another rather high bill from my dentist in March.

Inflation has been up a lot, the highest one we’ve had in the past 50 years, they say. Luckily this doesn’t really reflect in my numbers too much yet as far as I can see.

There might be bad news coming up later in the year when my energy bill arrives, but we’ll cross that bridge when we get there. This year I even got a refund from my electricity supplier. According to them, I used 966 kWh between May 2021 and May 2022. I don’t know if that’s high or low in comparison to other people, but it’s interesting to have a number especially in light of the rising energy costs.

Anyway, without further ado, these are my numbers, tidily added up from January to June:

On first glance it seems like my earlier optimism was justified: I’m still on course even without having tracked my expenses in real time. That’s good to know! Funnily enough, my spending for the first 6 months equals almost exactly half of the official minimum subsistence level for the year. 5177.18€ x2 would be 10354.36€, which would mean I’d miss my goal by 7.36€ 😄

Of course there might still be pitfalls waiting for me, like the aforementioned energy bill in autumn/winter. But so far I’m still doing fine, without restricting myself in any way 🥳
